SRO, which is a Dutch acronym for Sports, Recreation & Education and was owned and operated by the Amersfoort local council until 1992, is currently an independent organisation dedicated to promoting sports and managing real estate properties. The organisation commissioned us to create a new online platform following a number of joint ventures, including an update of their website.
Our idea was to create a single platform, with SRO managing the sites for the accommodations at both the central and local levels (30 sites for swimming pools, sports centres and other amenities). We created a fully manageable multisite platform (using the WordPress content management system) with several levels of site management, ranging from a team of ‘super-administrators’ to web editors for separate accommodation sites. An added benefit was that the content could easily be shared across various sites.
After conducting a detailed survey among the website’s visitors, users and administrators, we incorporated the results into the platform structure, as well as into the design. We incorporated the results into the structure of the platform and translated them into the design. Once we had completed the website, we provided training to the users, teaching them to maintain and update the platform themselves. Since the website went live, both the traffic and the number of swimming lessons registrations have increased on all channels. Since going live, there has been an increase of 20% more visitors to the website and a 34% increase in online swimming lessons registrations.
The new website has ensured that the website is technically better and more accessible for both target groups. The loading time of the new SRO website has also decreased and improved in terms of user-friendliness.
